We spent the morning in St. Mark’s Square. The pigeons are everywhere! You can buy food and they’ll land right in your hand. I had them on my arms, hands, even my head! (And no poop!)

We went inside St. Mark’s Basilica and could really see the difference in architecture from Rome and Florence to Venice. Venice definitely has more of an Eastern feel. In the afternoon, we had a guided tour to three of the outlying islands—Murano (where they make the famous Venetian glass), Burano (where they make Venetian lace), and Torcello. We bought some small lace pillows, but we thought the glass prices were pretty outrageous.
