I am optimistic again about our country.

I am hopeful again for our future.

This is why, 15 minutes ago, I ran -- literally ran -- from my friend's house back to my home after watching election returns (she has cable and I do not), why I woke my daughter to share with her these history-making results (she smiled drowsily and went back to sleep), and why I cried like a baby listening to Obama spell out the significance of his win through 106-year-old Ann Nixon Cooper's eyes and watching people all over our nation -- and the entire world -- bask in this moment.
